1 Anyone use bandcamp.com? on Tue Feb 09, 2010 12:28 am

I just found out about this on poppunkbored.com.

It seems a lot cooler than myspace for bands.

It is free.

Here is a Banner Pilot's bandcamp page.

Here is the homepage:

can't we just go back to the days where bands had shitty websites that were hardly ever updated?

i forgot that i used this site before. signals midwest from uhh cincinatti? columbus? somewhere in ohio was selling their album through bandcamp. you get to listen to the entire album for free (itunes should really allow more than 30 second samples) and then buy it if youre into it. real easy to use. it helped that their cd is awesome..

matt patt, if you haven't heard them, check them out, i think you'd be into it!

bonus: lyrics included on the site. i love the future..

Yeah, that lyrics feature is really cool. Also I have heard signals midwest before, but I forgot about them. Thank you for reminding me. They are really good!

If this site really takes off, it'll totally kill any reason for having a myspace anymore. Which is a good thing.

Wah wah myspace is killing punk blah blah. It's a good source for communication if you're in a band.

we need a bass player, really bad.

who wants in? i asked before and some of you said you'd be down, but we need somebody who can devote a lot of time to it, or at least take it seriously.

The thing that bandcamp seems to lack is the social networking part. I don't think it can replace myspace in that sense, but its a better place to host your music because you can make all your releases streamable, + sell the files digitally if you want to (they do take commission but apparently its less than most other places including itunes). I know this doesn't really matter a whole but i think its neat. You upload a lossless (ie FLAC) copy of your music to them. They convert it to a whole bunch of other formats of varying quality so people can choose the quality they wish to download. You can also set up your files to be downloadable at "name your price" so it can be donation based. I think it has a lot of neat features but won't really take off unless they add some social networking capability. Until then, I wish bands would use it, so you could hear full songs of entire albums before buying. I think it is a better replacement for itunes than myspace. It would be something good to link to your myspace, however.
